So, what do you do after working 10 hours over night in Cleveland, getting off at 3a and catching a 6a flight to Atlanta; then driving an hour to the office to download on the work week with your project team? For most of us that would be an easy answer; get home and sleep for 12 hours.
But Josh Cofield is not like most people. What he is though, is a great example of what makes Superior Energy and Control an exceptional team. We often talk about our people being great but in my work, I often get to catch members of our team "Being Excellent".
Such is the case with Josh, one of our Field based Project Managers. I have had the great pleasure of working side by side with Josh on a very difficult project at NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH, and have seen his desire to grow as a leader. I have been inspired by his dedication to quality, his unbending integrity, and a work ethic that amazes even the workaholic in me.
When Josh showed up to catch up with me Friday morning after his flight home I encouraged him to go home. But just as he was finishing up our project meeting he got a call from our Logistics Manager, who had been called away to load recycle material at our annex warehouse.
Michael had called to ask if Josh would unload the truck for him. I was amazed when I saw Josh head out to do what was being asked from him, more amazed that he was doing it without even a peep of complaint. I quickly followed to see if I could help.
Josh spent the next hour unloading 26 pallets of material from the semi. Even though it was the driver's responsibility to jack the pallets out of the truck, he was an older guy and I KNEW Josh wouldn't let him do the work. (I knew this because he does the same to THIS “older” fella) Josh did the work, collected his things, and finally left for home and a well-deserved night’s sleep.
Now I could rightfully just brag on an exceptional colleague, hoping that our followers would just be impressed with this great guy. But what I want to share is that this isn't all that exceptional where I work. In fact, the core group of leaders, and most of the employees have just this sort of work ethic, commitment to quality, integrity, and manners. I've worked at companies who put integrity into their mission statement, but this man's example of integrity is natural, and real. And I promise you that this integrity is brought to every job we take on. A team of stars, rising to the challenge in today's business world to earn profit while serving with integrity.
....oh, and my contribution to this worthy endeavor, was to take these photos and catch a great guy, Being Excellent. - enjoy!
